WMBD/WYZZ-TV - WASHINGTON, Ill - The new-look Babcook Field is taking shape.
Crews have begun installing the artificial turf which will be Washington High School's playing surface. The Panthers are hoping the field will be ready for the opener Aug. 29 against Bloomington Central Catholic.
The project, which was scheduled to be complete Aug. 1, is behind schedule but still can be completed before the football season begins.
The soccer, baseball and softball programs also stand to benefit from the new surface, which will not need watering, cutting or fertilizer. The marching band will also practice on the it.
