WMBD/WYZZ-TV - ROCK ISLAND, Ill - The final step in Metamora's long-awaited trip to state was taken on the same diamond where last year's dream of state ended.
"Last year, playing with my brother, had some bad memories here," Metamora junior Ethan Skender said. "There were a lot of emotions running. We came out, played our ball, did all we could do, Geremy pitched his butt off, Brady hit, we all hit the ball. It's what we needed to do."
Metamora beat Sycamore 10-0 in a Class 3A super-sectional at Augustana College to earn the team a trip to its first ever state baseball finals. Wheaton St. Francis eliminated Metamora in last June's super-sectional in Rock Island.
"To come out here and play one of our best games of the eyar, put up ten in the super-sectional," said Metamora senior Drew Beenders. "It feels amazing after being short of it last year. It's just a feeling I'm sure I'll never forget. Amazing."
Metamora faces Lemont in the state semifinals Friday at 10 a.m. in Joliet.
