WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- After a two-day absence, the Peoria Rivermen are back.
The southern Professional Hockey League unanimously approved the membership applications of the Rivermen and the Bloomington Blaze, bringing them in to the ten-team league.
The moves come two days after the NHL's Vancouver Canucks told the city of Peoria it would not put its Tripke A franchise in Carver Arena. Peoria has had professional hockey play at its Civic Center for 31 years, the last eight as a member of the American Hockey League.
The Blaze jump from the single A Central Hockey League to the SPHL. The Peoria and Bloomington franchises will be owned by the same investment group, Illinois Pro Sports, LLC.
