Stark County Wants Better 2017 Start

Boot Camp: Stark County

TOULON, Ill. - Stark County has been to the playoffs for 21 straight years.

But that streak was close to ending last fall when the Rebels opened the season 1-3.

"We got a good taste of adversity last year, so we know what to expect this year," said senior quarterback Cade Tuthill. "If things start going downhill, this year I think we might avoid that 1-and-3 start."

Stark County went on a five-game winning streak to finish the regular season 6-3 last year. The Rebels, who return five players on offense and six on defense, would rather not start the season in a hole this year.

"They've talked about not getting off to a start like that," said coach Jade Noard. "But they also know that first game or two, maybe three, doesn't have to define your season. You can rebound back."

Stark County opens the season at Elmwood-Brimfield on Aug. 25. It's a rematch of last year's opener, won by the Trojans, 47-6.
