WMDB/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- Joy for Illini Central, heartbreak for Brimfield.
Illini Central's 55-40 win over Fisher in the Normal Super-Sectional sends the Cougars to the boys basketball state tournament for the first time in school history. But the Cougars won't face Brimfield in the state semifinals.
The Indians were handed their first loss of the year by Carrollton. The Hawks beat Brimfield 58-48 in the Jacksonville Super-Sectional to advance to the class 1A state finals at Carver Arena.
In Class 2A, U-High erased a 16-point fourth quarter deficit and beat Teutopolis 60-59 in the Springfield super-sectional. Fieldcrest's bid for a state berth fell short as the Knight's were beaten by Rockford Lutheran in the DeKalb Super-Sectional, 72-46.
