Versatility a Plus for West's Stewart

WMBD/WYZZ-TV - NORMAL, Ill. -- At 6-4, Austin Stewart can be a nightmare for opposing coaches.

"I do think it presents some problems," said Stewart. "Like match-ups in height. I also work on my post game. So I have to take advantage of mismatches.

All that would be true if he was a forward. But the Normal West senior is one of the area's tallest guards.

Stewart can really play position on the floor.

"Versatility is a big key to this game," said Stewart. "I try to be as versatile as possible."

Stewart leads Normal West into the Class 4A Danville regional Wednesday against the host school.

"Athletically, he is a as special kid," said West coach Brian Cupples. "You don't find kids of that size and frame that can move the way he can."

Making Stewart a rare find. Who is still constantly working on his game.

"I work on quick feet, bursts and sprints," said Stewart. "I just try to stay in shape and keep as agile as I can. Went out and try to work on my moves.  I still have a lot of them. I just look at it as a challenge and something I want to achieve."

A total package of size and quickness.

"He hasn't even come to the tip of the iceberg as a player," said Cupples.

And it's his dream to take the Wildcats to state.
