Washington's Ludolph Practicing Success Now

Extra Effort: Cole Ludolph

WASHINGTON, Ill. - Everyone at Washington is excited to play for a sectional championship Friday.

Even a sophomore who's role doesn't involve a lot of playing time.

"I see myself as a guy that comes into the gym every day to make my team better," said Panthers sophomore Cole Ludolph. "If I give my team a better look than what they're going to see in a game, I've done my job as a teammate to give them the best look."

The Panthers face Bloomington for the Class 3A sectional championship at Renaissance Coliseum.

Right now Ludolf understands his role as a practice player in making his team better. During the day he does his best to make Washington High School a better place as well."

I'm office help. I'm an office runner," explained Ludolph. "I deliver things, I handle some money. It's a  really good experience for me."

Ludolph plays football and baseball at Washington, too. He serves on the sophomore class executive board and is an honors student with a 4.4 weighted grade point average.

His schedule is packed.

"To go home immediately after school every day wouldn't be the same," said Ludolph. "I like to be involved
in my school activities. It's a lot of fun for me."

Ludolph started a handful of games at the start of the season due to some injuries to the regulars. But know he's excelling at making those regulars better at practice.

"He's an incredible kid," said Washington basketball coach Kevin Brown.  "You can go teacher to teacher and you won't find one that says anything bad about Cole Ludolph. He makes other people better around him."

"I've had a lot of fun. That success is what drives you," said Ludolph as his team was getting loud during a defensive drill in practice. "And that, the cheers of your teammates, is what does it for me every day."
