WMBD/WYZZ-TV - NORMAL, Ill. - When Arion Worthman hits the field for his first game as Normal West quarterback, it'll be a reunion of sorts.
Worthman, the former standout quarterback at U-High, has transferred to West and will be the Wildcat's starter his senior year. He played JFL football in the West school district and went to junior high with many of the players he's now leading.
"The nice thing about Arion coming back to West is that he knows a lot of the kids, he went to school with them when he went down to Parkside Junior High and through elementary," said West head coach Darren Hess. "So it's been a pretty smooth transition."
Worthman, who lead U-High to the Class 5A state quarterfinals last fall, practiced with the Wildcats throughout the summer.
"This is my senior year, so I know what it takes and how demanding the season can be and how fast it goes by," explained Worthman. "So I'm just going to try to enjoy every practice, every snap like it's my last."
Normal West opens the season at home against Belleville West on Aug. 29.
