Athletes Bowl for the Win at Special Olympics Tournament

Bowling alley filled with supportive fans.
PEORIA - Athletes struck success at this weekend's Special Olympics state bowling tournament.

Men and women from across the state competed for a chance to win a national spot. Hundreds of their friends and family eagerly watching the games play out. Board member, Tim Flaherty said the fact that so many came to support is a huge inspiration.

"It's a sport, actually but what the athletes learn is that you can try, you can get better, you can accomplish something,” he said. “It helps them prove to other people that they're capable and really it's the rest of society that doesn't understand that sometimes."

All together about 300 athletes competed in the tournament.
