Band Season Kicks Off in Washington

WASHINGTON - Fourteen schools from around Central Illinois battled it out at the annual Washington Marching Panthers Band Invitational.
WASHINGTON - Saturday marked the start of band season for some local high schools

Fourteen local schools from traveled to Washington for their annual Marching Panthers Band Invitational.

The bands, ranging from 30 to nearly 200, were judged on visuals and musical performance.

They then use those critiques to improve as they head toward the State Finals in October.

"I think we use this as a chance to perform and get some feedback and make it an educational experience," said Washington Band Director Jim Tallman. "Some are really working up towards going to State and even National competitions."

This is the 27th year Washington has held the invitational.
