Benefit Being Held for Boy With Meningitis

BARTONVILLE - Earlier this year- a 2-year-old Peoria boy was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, so family and friends are holding a benefit for his family on September 7th.

The sickness spread so fast in James Maughan that doctors had to amputate limbs. He spent two months in the hospital and recently got his first prosthetic leg.  Organizers said it's taken a toll on the family financially, especially because the Maughan's other son was born with spina bifida.

James' aunt, Tammy Barton said the medical bills aren't over yet.

“He'll have ongoing expenses too for several years. You know there will be continuing surgeries as he grows he'll need new prosthetics,” Barton.

The benefit will take place on September 7th. The event will be set up in the pavilion behind the American Legion in Bartonville. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and the fun lasts until 10 at night.
