Big Brothers Big Sisters Introduces 12 Littles of Christmas

Organization introduces program to mentor children during the holidays

PEORIA -- There's a new way you can support local children of Big Brothers Big Sisters this holiday season.

The organization is introducing the 12 Littles of Christmas, an effort to find caring adult mentors for 12 children on the Big Brothers Big Sisters waiting list during the month of December.

Community members are being asked to consider a monetary gift to support a relationship between a child and a mentor.

"It doesn't really matter where we go.  I wouldn't care if my Big Sister didn't have any money and we just did things at my house.  I just want a mentor and a friend" says Emily Capitelli who's on the waiting list.

Her mother Jamie Capitelli tells WMBD 31, "Right now she doesn't really have that many people that she can turn to, so this would be a great chance for her to be able to reach out to other people."

It costs about $1,000 to support a relationship between a big and a little.

The organization hopes to raise $12,000 this month.
