BLOOMINGTON - The city of Bloomington has hired a new chief of police.

After seven months without a chief, retired state police Lieutenant Colonel Brendan Heffner was selected to head up the department.

City manager David Hales says Heffner has lived and worked around the twin cities for years, including service with the Normal Police Department and Illinois State Police.

Heffner will take the post October 7th.

He’s been working at State Farm since retiring from the state police in 2012.
