Bloomington Police Officer Retires Amidst DUI Investigation

BLOOMINGTON - A Bloomington police officer at the center of a DUI investigation is retiring from the force.
BLOOMINGTON - A Bloomington police officer at the center of a DUI investigation is retiring from the force.

Illinois State Police arrested 22 year veteran Sgt. Troy Doza on Nov. 10, after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, while off duty. According to reports, Doza's vehicle struck a utility pole and flipped over.

State Police and Bloomington Police had been investigating the incident. Police leaders say it's unfortunate that they lost Doza under these circumstances after all he's done for the community.

"While it's out there, it does kind of put a dark cloud over the department a little bit, and as I've alluded to before, we have great officers working here and they're still working hard, but the finality of it is good because either way we're moving on, but sooner is always better,” said police chief Brendan Heffner.

Heffner says they will continue to assist other outside investigations involving Doza, although their internal one is now complete. Heffner added Doza's replacement will likely be promoted from within the force.
