WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. - The St. Louis Blues alumni team was just a little bit better.
The Blues beat the Blackhawks, 10-9, in the 'Skate Strong' alumni game at Carver Arena Wednesday. The game benefited tornado relief efforts in central Illinois following a Nov. 17 storm that left hundreds of families without homes.
"I had the opportunity to sit down with a family from Washington that came to watch a Hawks game," said Blackhawks Hall of Famer Denis Savard, who played in the game. "I got to sit down with them. They really went over what went on."
Some 1,000 homes were damaged in the EF-4 tornado.
"We're getting to gether to help out a little bit where we can," said former Blues defenseman Dominic Lavoie, who played for the 1990-91 IHL champion Peoria Rivermen. "It makes it more special than just coming to have fun with a bunch of good guys."
