WMBD/WYZZ-TV - EL PASO, Ill. - El Paso may be a small town but its football team is making a big splash.
"We're definitely excited about it," said el Paso-Gridley head coach Stephen Grigsby. "It's definitely unique for a small school district, and we will be the only one in our conference, so that will be a unique advantage I think."
Grigsby and the Titans will play their home games on field turk in 2013. The nearly two-million dollar upgrade has changed the corn fields behind the high school to a new-look playing surface that includes a track.
"We're all pumped up. We can't wait to play on it," said quarterback Deavon Peck. "The community going out and (funding) it for us is pretty cool so we definitely want to go out and show them something, that it was worth it."
The Titans open the season at home against Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Friday night.
