Boot Camp: Metamora Might To Look New, Wants Same Results

Perennial power Metamora may look a little different in 2013

WMBD/WYZZ-TV - METAMORA, Ill. - It's pretty simple for Pat Ryan.

When you have no returning starters on offense, you expect to look a little different that last year. That's the case at Metamora for the first time in a long time.

"Most of our experience is back on defnese, we have four or five guys that played quite a bit on defense," said Ryan, Metamora's head coach. "Offense is another story. It's a lot of new faces, they've progressed this summer. The bottom line for us is we have to get confident but I don't know if we'll ever get comfortable."

Brendan Nachtrieb was expected to return as the Redbirds' starting quarterback after leading his team to a 7-3 mark in 2012.. But an offseason leg injury will sideline him for the season.

So don't be surprsied if Metamora's defense is ahead of its offense in the early going. "This year you have to play with a chip on you shoulder," said senior defensvie back Erik Inman. "People talk about how we lost in the first round of the playoffs the last two years. You have to keep that in the back of your mind but keep fighting for the future."

Metamora opens the season at Sterling on Aug. 30.
