WMBD/WYZZ-TV - TREMONT, Ill. - When Tremont rolled through an 8-1 regular season in 2012, the expectation was for a deep playoff run.
Didn't happen. Illini West beat the Turks 24-6 in the first round of the playoffs last season.
This year's team considered that a lesson learned.
"One thing we learned is there's another level you have to play at a practice if you want to get deep in the playoffs," sais senior quarterback Konner O'Keefe. "You have to reach that next level."
O'Keefe is one of nine returning starters on the Tremont offense. Tremont is expected to be a force in the Heart of Illinois Conference.
And the Turks expect to make ammends in the postseason.
"Maybe we didn't take each game seriously last year, it would've helped us prepare," said senior running back Caleb Schutt. "A lot of teams that ran against us, we didn't take to heart. That's how we lost."
Tremont opens the season at Heyworth on Friday night.
