WMBD/WYZZ-TV - NORMAL, Ill. - The West Wildcats feel like they are ready for anything in 2013.
Afterall, Normal West made the playoffs last year even after star quarterback Alex Jefferson went down with a season-ending ankle injury six weeks into the season. If West can survive that, it can survive anything.
"I love our kids, they work well together," said Wildcats head coach Darren Hess. "I think we have talented kids. It's just a matter of how competitive we are on Fridays."
Normal West seniors have a chance to earn playoff appearances in all four years of high school. The only other time the Wildcats have made four straight playoofs was 2004-07.
"We're starting a legacy that's been going strong for many years," said West senior Steven Lorenz. "The most important thing I can do is hand the reigns to the juniors and sophomores for the next year. Us seniors can do that and be the team that shows the way."
West opens the season at home against Champaign Central on Aug. 30.
