PEORIA - A young boy is taking action for the community with a special birthday wish.
Gavin Simmons recently turned nine years old, and decided to do something different for his birthday. He saw reports about a rash of vandalism at Peoria Friendship House a few weeks ago.  He wanted to help.
So he raised money to help the organization.
Tuesday, he and his mom presented a check for $330. To raise the money, Gavin had a special birthday request.
"(I asked friends) to bring money and on the invitation, we put instead of bringing presents bring money," he said.

"Yup I just asked him on the way home from school what he wanted to do before his birthday and so he said for my party, I want to have people bring money for poor people,” said his mother, Becky Simmons.
Three vehicles at the Friendship House were vandalized, including a truck used to help families in crisis. The money will go towards fixing the vehicles.
