Car Crashes Into Apple's Bakery But Business Stays Open

PEORIA - A popular eatery may look a bit different to customers, but that didn’t stop many from trying out bakery treats. Over the weekend a car crashed into the corner of the dining room at Apple’s Bakery in North Peoria. Fortunately the bakery is closed on Sundays so no one was inside. A city building inspector gave the go ahead for the business to open as usual Monday, saying it is structurally sound. Owner Mary Ardapple credits first responders for taking action.

“The professionalism and customer service delivered has really meant a lot. We don't take time often enough to thank those emergency personnel on a scene and I wanted to take a minute and say thank you.”

Ardapple says she’s surprised the passengers in the car didn’t have more extensive injuries. They are being treated at local hospitals. Peoria Police cited Michael J. Cleary , 29 of Peoria with DUI, driving on a revoked license, speeding and improper lane usage. Authorities say he and two others were taken to the hospital after the accident with non life threatening injuries. Police say when they arrived early Sunday, they found a car on its hood, partially in the building and Cleary had to be freed from the wrecked car.
