WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- With the swift motion of a pen, the Peoria Chiefs went from Cubbie blue to Cardinal red.
The St. Louis Cardinals and Peoria chiefs signed a four-year player development contract Tuesday afternoon at Chiefs Stadium. It'll be the second such working agreement between the teams.
The Chiefs were the Class A Midwest league affiliate of the Cardinals from 1995-2004 before the Chiefs switched agreements and became a farm team of the Chicago Cubs.
"I learned a long time ago, it's probably better to forgive than try and carry something forward," said Cardinals general manger John Mozeliak of the Chiefs-Cards split eight years ago.
"I think from a bigger picture," said Mozeliak. "This is a good place for us. As I said earlier, we didn;t want to leave but we're happy to be back."
