Carver Arena Lays New Ice for Rivermen Season

PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen are gearing up for hockey season, but there's one thing the civic center has to prepare before a single puck can slide: ice.

It takes a large crew to spray several thin layers of water onto the rink, which is what took place at Carver Arena on Wednesday. There's also a coat of white paint under there to hide the concrete floor.

The process takes four to five days.  The team's Assistant General Manager, Mickey Gray, said he’s excited for a fresh team to play on the new ice.

"More goals, more hits more action, more fights, that's a part of it. We want to make the whole experience fun for the fans so that's what this Riverman team is really going to be about," Gray said.

The first time the Rivermen will play on that ice is Friday, October 18th for a pre-season game against Bloomington Blaze.
