EAST PEORIA - Local school teachers learned how to align their curriculum with the needs of their desired career fields.
EAST PEORIA - Local school teachers learned how to align their curriculum with the needs of their desired career fields.

Those teachers met with business and community leaders from across the state of Illinois to learn about the necessary skills for each field.

The lessons emphasized the significance of certain skills in math, science and engineering needed in the professional workplace.

Community leaders say the conference will help keep workers in Illinois.

"If we want to continue to attract quality employers to our area and we have a lot of them, but if they don't have a sustainable flow of people coming in to occupy those jobs, they can't stay,” said Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis.

More than 100 people attended the Career Readiness Fair.
