PONTIAC - A 33-year old man from South Carolina has been charged in connection with the death of Pontiac K-9 police officer Casey Kohlmeier. The Livingston County State's Attorney says Jason Collins of West Columbia, South Carolina was formally charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. The charges allege that Collins operated a pick-up truck on northbound Interstate 55 when he left the roadway and struck Officer Kohlmeier's department SUV in the center cross-over. Collins was taken into custody when he was discharged from an area hospital by Illinois State Police. Collins has waived extradition and was transported to the Livingston County Jail for arraignment on the felony charges. WMBD 31 will have more details on this story later today.
