PEORIA – The city of Peoria will not pursue a buy-out of privately owned, Illinois American Water.
PEORIA – The city of Peoria will not pursue a buy-out of privately owned, Illinois American Water.
After considerable discussion from both the public and Peoria city council members, city leaders voted eight to three against the deal and making water service a city run entity.
For now, Illinois American Water will continue to provide Peoria with water service. Under terms of an agreement, the city has the right every five years to purchase the water company which is privately run.
Proponents of a takeover claim Peoria is paying more than the national average for water while opponents were concerned about the cost and what some call a hostile takeover of a private company.
