NORMAL - You've probably heard the term, "Keep the change", a few times during your lifetime. On Friday, the United Way of McLean County and local McDonald's teamed up to give that phrase new meaning.

Volunteers from the United Way stood outside of the fast food drive-thrus, holding a change jar, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Many customers gave their change from their meal, and all of that will be used for the united way's work in the community. Organizers say it's a grand tradition.

"People are very generous. Many of the customers will actually give us the change they got from their order. Other people pull out bills and more bills. It's just a nice pleasant atmosphere and a good place for us to do some good,” said Alan Chambers, interim president and CEO of McLean County United Way.

The United Way hopes to have a total from its "change drive" by early next week.
