PEORIA - Community members got the chance to see programs in action today.
Leaders of local trades unions and members of the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce met this morning at Woodruff Career and Technical Center.
They got to tour the career and technical facilities housed there.
WCTC offers programs for students interested in cosmetology, construction, engineering and more.
Business development director Michael Everett says, “
Not everybody is going onto college. There's a lot of different occupations out there that pay very well. You can definitely raise a family, have a good standard of living, that doesn't require a college degree.”
Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan adds, “Every child should have an option for what happens to them after high school. They might choose right after high school to go to the world of work and then go to coollege later on. We just want to make sure students have choices.”
After the meeting-- the groups met to talk about expanding opportunities for students with job shadowing  and apprenticeships.
