Crittenton Center Opens Garden Addition

PEORIA - The center used money from a recent LISC grant to expand the plant bed and extend the walking trail.
PEORIA - The Crittenton Center garden is only a year old, but on Monday, they got to show off its first expansion.

The center held an open house to show off the new additions to the garden.

Through a $20,000 LISC grant, the center was able to add on to their plant beds and extend their walking trail.

They also added benches, picnic table, and an educational area for their classes.

The center hopes that families can use the garden to learn about sustainable living.

Project Manager Sarah Chapman said, "We are hoping to provide a safe place for families to gather, enjoy a nutritious meal, exercise, and play in a safe place for our community."

The center hopes to expand even more in 2014.

Long term, they want to add a pavilion and a playground.
