A Project to Inspire: Community Artwork Focuses on Hope, Healing

NORMAL – A wall of color is brightening people’s spirits at the Community Cancer Center.
NORMAL – A public project aimed to inspire is taking shape at the Community Cancer Center.

Till Friday, the facility is encouraging everyone to stop in and paint a canvas expressing their vision of "hope."

So far dozens have taken part in the project, including patients.

Polly Graber is currently working on her painting with the assistance of staff member Sheri Heusel.

She says expressing her emotions on paper is helping her heal.

Once complete each canvas will be merged to create a "Wall of Hope."

Graber is thankful for the opportunity.

"I said I can't do it, and then she (Sheri) said she would help me," said Graber.

"When this project came up I jumped at the chance to help because patients are mine,” said Heusel.  “ I see them on a regular basis and I want to instill hope.  I want each and every one of them to have hope."

The public is welcome to stop in and paint from 10 am till four pm.

The Community Cancer Center will unveil the "Wall of Hope" in January.
