Anti-Violence Group Looks for Volunteers

Peoria Community Against Violence aims to keep crime low
PEORIA - The City of Peoria is creating a new citizen action group, and is looking for your help.

Much like Peoria’s “Don’t Shoot” Anti-Violence campaign, the Peoria Community Against Violence is aiming to keep Peoria peaceful.

It rolled out plans Tuesday at the main branch of the Peoria Library to help cut down on violent crime, and is looking for volunteer citizens to help.

“It’s better to do something before it ever happens,” says retired Judge Glen Collier. “And that’s what we’re trying to do here, is to prevent these violent crimes committed with guns from occurring in the first place.”

PCAV leaders said that they’re drawing inspirations from other programs around the nation that have shown progress in lowering crime.

They also want Peoria residents to come to open houses the group will hold, and give their thoughts on how violence can be lowered.
