"Back to School Bash" Helps Kids get Ready for School

PEORIA - This is the first year for the Back to School Bash.
PEORIA - Over the next couple of weeks, a lot of kids will be getting back on to the bus and heading back in to the classroom.

After three months of no school, it is hard for many kids to get back in to the rhythm of the school day.

One organization is trying to get kids motivated for when that day comes.

The Marcellus Sommerville Foundation hosted a "Back to School Bash" at the Peoria Riverplex.

It was put on by former Peoria and Bradley basketball star Marcellus Sommerville.

Kids had a chance to get school supplies, get groomed up, and have fun with their friends.

Sommerville hopes that getting kids excited to start school will help them work harder when it starts.

He said, "We're trying to, hopefully, develop a little passion for them to even be eager to go to school and want to partake in activities during school."

This is the first year for the bash.
