Bloomington Hopes To Get Reimbursed For Parking Deck Expenses

BLOOMINGTON - The City of Bloomington is hoping to get money back for major repairs to a parking deck.
BLOOMINGTON - The City of Bloomington is hoping to get money back for major repairs to a parking deck.

In October an inspector found a "hairline fracture" in the lower level of the U.S. Cellular Coliseum’s parking deck. That took away about 200 parking spaces.

City officials say there was not enough steel inside the concrete beams. Now, the city is hoping to settle with contractors, so it can be reimbursed for repairs and other ongoing costs.

"If not, then it would go to an arbitrator, and with binding arbitration, all parties would be bound to whatever an arbiter decides would be at fault and who would have to pay for the repairs,” said city manager David Hales.

Repairs for the parking deck are estimated to cost about $1 to $1.6 million. Those could take about six to eight months of warmer weather to complete.
