BLOOMINGTON - Resurfacing and maintaining its roads have been a big budget consideration this year in Bloomington.

On Monday, the council approved a contract for a $100,000 street master plan. In addition to repairs, it will also add new roads over the next 20 years. Specifically, the city wants to connect roads, like at Commerce and Hamilton, that currently are separated.

City leaders say the plan will help the city save money as it works on future projects.

"It's going to use that information in conjunction with economic development pieces, and then also some other criteria with traffic for us and to be able to rate and prioritize, taking into account, what do the citizens want,” said public works director Jim Karch.

The city has several other streets, including areas near State Farm South, that it would like to see punched through to improve efficiency.
