Bloomington Public Library Explores Expansion Options

BLOOMINGTON - Growing use of the facility is prompting the staff members to explore new ways to accommodate more people.
BLOOMINGTON - Growing use of the facility is prompting staff members to explore new ways to accommodate more people.

While board members are considering building a second library on the city's east side, a proposal to expand the current spot on Olive Street is also being discussed.

Under the plan, a portion of the public works facility would be moved to a different location, giving the library more space to grow.

Board President Dr. Narendra Jaggi says change is needed to handle a booming population.

“Anytime you go to the library it's packed.  The parking lot is packed.  Some days you'll find people sitting on the the floor,” Jaggi explained.  “The demand on the library has grown exponentially."

Cost estimates and designs are still being worked out.

The board wants to get decisions made as soon as possible.
