Bloomington Residents Weigh in On Streetscaping

BLOOMINGTON - The City of Bloomington has made it a priority to revitalize its downtown area.
BLOOMINGTON - The City of Bloomington has made it a priority to revitalize its downtown area.

Community members and city leaders gathered inside the government center this afternoon for a discussion with architects and planners of the improved downtown.

One of the big components: adding shaded areas to the storefronts and sidewalks. Architects say the city already has several nice elements for building in place and now the challenge is to improve upon them.

"One of the things we're looking at is what else goes into the streetscape--trees, benches---and how will that impact where lights go. We're trying to give the lighting plan a bit more comprehensive approach than just come in and say a light goes here,” said Jeff Martin, landscape architectural manager for Farnsworth Group.

Another important element the city and the designers are looking at is improving the downtown to accommodate the day- and night-time crowds that come through Bloomington.
