Boot Camp: Bloomington Players Battle for Starting Roles

Coach Rigo Schmelzer is allowing his Purple Raiders to compete for starting positions until the final week of the preseason.
WMBD/WYZZ-TV - BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Rigo Schmelzer is content to allow his Bloomington team to compete and challenge each other for starting positions until the week of its first game. Specifically, he has a close eye on the quarterback battle between senior Donovan Loftin and junior Tyler Stewart.

"Kids that may have looked just average may all of a sudden now with pads be willing to take contact and hit whereas some of the kids that looked really good shy away from it, so we'll wait to see," Schmelzer said.

The Purple Raiders kick off Aug. 30 in LaGrange Park against Nazareth Academy.
