WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. - When the Peoria Heights football team hits the field this year, it hopes to be younger and faster than its competition in the Prairieland Conference.
Jon Adkins is pretty sure about the 'young' part. t's the 'fast' part he's still waiting to see.
"We have multiple guys," said Adkins when asked how he would replace star Ron Willis, who graduated. "We're very deep at our skilled positions. We're excited about that, we're excited they are young. We feel like we're going to be one of the most athletic teams in the conference."
The Patriots have gone 11 years without a playoff berth and are hoping young, fresh legs can put them in position to end the drought this fall.
"We're playing bigger schools," said senior center Austin Ames. "So if we can be quicker than them, get off the ball, then we definitely have a shot to win."
Peoria Heights opens the season at Ridgewood on Aug. 29.
