Bradley Student Reflects on Olympic Internship

“I can't believe it's over already!”
PEORIA – Six students from Bradley University are starting to arrive back on campus from their internships at the Sochi Olympics.

Anna Wilks worked in the hospitality department.

“I can't believe it's over already!” she said. “Everyone around the world is watching and that I got to be there, experience is just incredible.”

Wilks went with five Bradley peers who worked on different aspects of the coverage. They brought back pictures documenting run ins with athletes and the time they spent around some iconic structures at the Olympic Village.

“It was always very exciting all these people milling around with flags people chanting and cheering,” Wilks said.

She said their fears about security threats quickly melted away.

“I think a lot of us were a little nervous about seeing security officers and police officers around, but the longer we stayed it, all my feelings went away,” Wilks said.

There were moments of fun in between long days and only a few hours of sleep. Wilks said it opened her eyes to the reality of pulling off such a big event.

It really does make you appreciate everyone behind the scenes. All the people I worked for, you would never even know that they were there because they just worked so hard to make sure that everything runs smoothly,” she said. “It was just really cool to be a part of it all.”
