Construction Ramps Up in Central Illinois

Route 40 at Nebraska Avenue
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that the southbound right lane of IL 40 (Knoxville Avenue) at Nebraska Avenue in Peoria will be closed Monday, March 31st through Friday, April 4th.

This lane closure is necessary for utility crews to complete sanitary sewer repair work.

I-74 in Morton
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces work will resume Tuesday, April 1st on I-74 between I-474 and I-155 in Morton. Lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-74 can be expected Tuesday through Friday of next week between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

These lane closures are necessary for construction of temporary pavement and setting of temporary barrier wall.

The speed limit through the entire work zone will be reduced to 45 mph beginning Monday, March 31st and will continue through the construction season. The work zone speed limit is in effect at all hours, whether or not workers are present.

The overall project is the complete reconstruction of I-74 from Pleasant Hill Road to Morton Avenue in Tazewell County. The project is expected to be completed in 2015.

Route 116 in Tazewell County
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces the following work and lane closures on IL 116 over Ten Mile Creek in Tazewell County:

Monday, March 31st
·  The left lane of both directions of IL 116 will be closed (both westbound lanes will be open between before 8:30 a.m.; both eastbound lanes will be open after 3:30 p.m.) Crews will be completing dirt work for drainage in the median.

Tuesday, April 1st
·  The left lane of westbound IL 116 will be closed. Crews will be installing guardrail.

Wednesday, April 2nd

U.S. 24 in Fulton County
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that bridge construction will begin Tuesday, April 1st on US 24 at Little Sister Creek and Big Sister Creek, west of Little America in Fulton County.

US 24 traffic in this area will be reduced to one lane for the remainder of the summer for construction of the bridges carrying US 24 over Little Sister Creek and Big Sister Creek. Temporary signals will be in place to direct traffic and motorists should also expect a lane shift within the project area as a result of this work.

Intermittent daytime lane closures on US 24 are also scheduled starting Monday, March 17th in preparation for the bridge work.

·  Intermittent lane closures are scheduled in the westbound lanes of IL 116. Crews will be completing striping work.

Thursday, April 3rd
·  The right lane of both directions of IL 116 will be closed. Crews will be installing concrete barrier wall. Traffic will be shifted into a long-term configuration while the project is completed. Eastbound traffic will utilize a temporary crossover lane, then one lane of the westbound bridge over Ten Mile Creek, then will be redirected back to the eastbound lanes.

Travel delays are likely and motorists should plan accordingly. The project is expected to be completed by November 1st.
