Cooling Centers in Peoria

The high temperatures have forced places to set up cooling centers in the area.
PEORIA - Despite all this heat, there are some places you can go to cool off. Cooling centers are starting to pop up in Peoria.

People can head to the Department of Human Services, the Friendship House, or any Peoria fire station to get out of the heat.

The Salvation Army also has one set up a cooling station at its Jefferson Street location.

It's open throughout most of the day from 8 in the morning until 8:30 at night.

"We do notice an increase on days like today. We'll have more people come in who necessarily aren'ts our normal clients but are coming in because it's hot. They want something to drink, they want to cool off, they want to get a shower, they want to watch TV or they maybe want resources or referrals,” Shay McMahon, the Salvation Army Family Services director, said.
