Thanks to the mostly favorable weather, corn and soybean production in Illinois is well ahead of schedule, according to data released Monday by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. 62 percent of corn is silking compared to 19 percent at this time last year and well ahead of the five year average of 48 percent. 81 percent of the corn is in good to excellent condition. 50 percent of soybeans are blooming well above the five year average of 36 percent. 76 percent of the beans are considered in good to excellent condition. Topsoil moisture was rated only 6 percent short, 83 percent adequate and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated at only one percent very short, 13 percent short, 80 percent adequate and 6 percent surplus.
