Producers spent long days in the field last week making up for time lost due to the previous week's wet weather. According to a news released issued Monday from the Illinois Department of Agriculture, corn planting increased to 78 percent complete, ahead of the five year average of 53 percent. Soybean planting also progressed to 26 percent, also ahead of the five year average of 16 percent. Topsoil moisture was rated at 11 percent short, 75 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated at 4 percent very short, 24 percent short, 64 percent adequate and 8 percent surplus.
