PEORIA - A teenager gets a new set of wheels that lets him ride on his own for the first time.
14 -year-old Jake Grys is ready for his new ride. This is his custom fitted amtryke. The bike helps people with disabilities ride on their own.
The seat and pedals are made just for Jake. Jake battles a rare, disabling bone disease. He says the bike makes him feel like a new man.
“I'm really appreciative because they actually took their own time to help me become almost like riding a new car, but different," said Grys.
The bike even has a special license plate with Jake’s name. It is assembled by Pekin Ambucs, which makes nearly 20 amtrykes each year.
“You get to watch kids who have never been able to be on a bicycle to be able to ride with their friends, to be able to ride with their family, to be able to ride with brothers and sisters,” said Dennis Barron of Pekin Ambucs.
