Daniel Officially Takes Helm Of Unit Five

After seven years with Dr. Gary Niehaus as superintendent, Dr. Mark Daniel began working in his new office Tuesday morning.
NORMAL - The largest school district in McLean County officially started a new era on Tuesday.

After seven years with Dr. Gary Niehaus as superintendent, Dr. Mark Daniel began working in his new office Tuesday morning.

Daniel came to town on Monday and has been trying to adjust to the demands of the new job, and learn the area better.

But Daniel knows he has to get to work on the budget, teacher contracts and making some big decisions for the district.

"Looking forward to when school starts and that whole process, which Dr. Niehaus continued and I hope to continue, and that is visiting all classrooms and being part of the everyday functioning of our buildings,” said Daniel.

Daniel was previously superintendent in Dowagiac, Mich., and Fort Wayne, Ind., before coming to the Twin Cities. Unit Five's first day of school is August 18.
