WMBD/WYZZ-TV - MACKINAW, Ill. - When volleyball practice started last year, nobody was surprised to hear Deer Creek-Mackinaw talk about repeating as state champion.
The Chiefs had the nucleus of their team back from the 2012 Class 2A state title winners. That's not the case in 2014 but it's not stopping Dee-Mack from talking about a third straight trip to Redbird Arena.
"It's a completely different team. we still have a couple of girls that were with is there but the expectations are still high," said senior outside hitter Lauren Anderson. "We came in on (Wednesday) and coach (Brandon) Mueller said, 'I completely expect you guys to make it to Redbird this year.'"
Anderson has been the center piece of the team which has a first place and third place finish at state the past two years. She and her teammates would like to carry on the momentum.
"It's been awesome being around all those people and experiencing state," said junior Addie Patton. "But this year we have a big expectation to meet because we all want to go back to state."
