PEORIA - The Marriott Pere Marquette has new management today after Peoria City Council approved a switch last night. That management is now the same as the new Courtyard Marriott right next door, and that hotel is set to open in just two weeks.
This project has been in the works for more than three years. There have been funding issues, and the size has been scaled down, among other hurdles. But in just 16 days, the new Courtyard Marriot in downtown Peoria will be ready for guests.
Since the Pere Marquette, its neighbor, now has the same management, the two can work together to attract visitors.
“That we’ll be able to sell both properties as one, which will allow us to get much larger groups into the area,” Joe LoMonaco, the hotels managing director, said. “We will be a convention hotel.”
And the connecting hotels are not the only reason it will be considered a convention hotel.
LoMonaco said, at a normal walking rate, it takes about three to four minutes to get from the new hotel to the Civic Center, and it’s all due to the new skywalk they installed between the two buildings.
The Courtyard is in the final stretch, cleaning rooms and supplying them with toiletries or bedding, but the biggest item on the agenda: training all the new employees.
“When you have a brand like Marriott, there’s a lot of training involved, and we have a very short window to get that done, so I would think the hardest part right now is making sure everyone is trained properly to take care of our guests when they start checking in,” LoMonaco said.
The Courtyard hopes to attract a mix of Peoria visitors whether it’s a business person in town for the week or a family visiting for the weekend.
The Courtyard Marriott also has a meeting room, which is available for anyone to rent out.
