WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. - Nick Pudick knows a win in tomorrow night's regional, sends his team to annually one of the best sectonals in the state.
The one in Peoria.
"A chance to play at Renassance Coliseum, sectionals. We'd have a lot of happy fans watching Notre Dame to have success in basketball this season," said Pudik.
But basketball isn't the only place where the Notre Dame senior. He's No. 1 in his class and has been there since his first straight A report card four years ago.
"I didn't care that much about it, then once I got into it I kinda wanted to keep it going,"' the 6-2 guard said. "And I've been able to keep the spot since freshman year."
Pudik is involved in student government, the Anchor CLub, and he's the president of Notre Dame's Key Club where he leads a group of 70 students into volunteer activities all over Peoria.
"It's really great to help out the community," said Pudik. "Even if it doesn't get noticed. It still touches me."
Pudik and Notre Dame play Richwoods for the Metamora Regional Friday night.
"He's an all around great kid. Great for our program, great for Notre Dame in general," said Irish coach Tom Lacher. "Really smart kid, really hard worker. He's been a real leader in our program and in the school. We're proud to have him."
He's scheduled to be a volunteer at this months March Madness Experience. That is, if he's not playing in it.
