The first West Nile virus has been confirmed in a mosquito batch this year. The Tazewell County Health Department announced the finding Thursday. Authorities say this is the portion of the summer when West Nile will be at its peak. Health officials urge everyone to protect themselves by wearing insect repellent and taking other precautions. West Nile is transmitted to humans through a mosquito which picked up the virus from feeding on an infected bird. Health officials remind residents of the three Rs, reduce, repel and report.
