BLOOMINGTON - After a month of fundraising for Easter Seals, students at Fox Creek Elementary are celebrating.

On Friday, the students presented a check of more than $1,100 to Easter Seals. Most of it came from a "coin drive" started by fifth graders.

Then, they partied with some special guests. The "service learning project" helped put the fifth graders in a leadership role to their younger school mates.

"It's important to be respectful to disability kids and what they need to have and learn what they should know about them,” said fifth grader Ashyanna Watson.

"I really am into teaching the whole child and teaching them how to be good community members and things like that. So, service learning is something that's near and dear to me, and I knew my students would love it,” said student-teacher Kayley Pyne, who helped start the project.

The fifth graders broke up into four different teams throughout the month of April to help with the project.
